The man who relentlessly pursued endless, and fruitless, investigations into Hllary Clinton’s involvement in the Benghazi “scandal” has resigned his position atop the House Committee on Ethics today, according to a reporton The Daily Caller.
Representative Trey Gowdy (R-SC) sent his resignation to House Majority leader Paul Ryan (R-WI) citing his new position as Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee as the motivation.
“When I became Chairperson of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform I knew I would not be able to keep all other committee assignments to include Judiciary, Intelligence and Ethics. Four committee assignments, including a Chairmanship, is a challenging workload,” he added.
Gowdy faced intense criticism over his refusal to drop the Benghazi investigation despite the fact that no evidence linking Hillary Clinton to any type on wrongdoing surfaced.
The Tea Party Republican was even forced to settle a suit from a former aide who was fired for refusing to exclusively focus their investigative work on the former Secretary of State, spending $150,000 of tax payer dollars on the settlement.
Gowdy’s resignation from the Ethics committee will take effect as soon as Speaker Ryan names a replacement. The move isn’t expected to change the Congressman’s focus, however.
As the Chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, he will have an equal opportunity to pursue fruitless investigations and waste taxpayer dollars on his personal vendettas, so we can expect some form of Hillary Clinton investigation to be re-started as soon as President Trump sends his next tweet asking for one.
