Anthony Scaramucci’s tenure as White House Communications Director is over after ten days.
The brash, opportunistic former hedge fund manager sold his business, sacrificed his marriage, and voluntarily missed the birth of his son to cozy up to President Trump, who hired him despite a total lack of communications experience. Now, it seems, it was all for naught.
The New York Times‘ Maggie Haberman, Michael D. Shear, and Glenn Thrush report that Trump told Scaramucci You’re Fired! at the urging of new Chief of Staff John F. Kelly.
Kelly replaced Reince Priebus who was fired last week over a public with feud with Scaramucci, whose hiring caused the resignation of beleaguered press secretary Sean Spicer.
It remains unclear if Scaramucci will be given a different White House job. His tenure was marked by a series of humiliating gaffes, including citing the late Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, who was found to have covered up decades of child rape, as an example of honor and loyalty.
The White House’s revolving door seems to be spinning faster and faster as Trump increasingly demands absolute loyalty but returns none. For those hoping that White House disarray would resolve itself, Trump has again proved them wrong.
