Acting US ambassador to China David Rank resigned from his post in Beijing over President Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris climate agreement, according to CNN.

A tweet from China expert and author John Pomfret cited unnamed sources as saying that Rank had resigned as he could not support Trump’s decision last week to withdraw the U.S. from the global climate change pact, which nearly 200 nations are a part of.

“Mr. Rank made a personal decision,” a senior State Department official told CNN. “We appreciate his years of dedicated service to the State Department.”

Rank has served in the foreign service since 1990, and has been serving in an interim role in the Beijing embassy until Trump’s pick for ambassador arrives, according to The Hill.
